A CRITICAL REVIEW OF DR. B.R. AMBEDKARS DEMOCRATIC AGENDA IN INDIA

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar as the principal architect of the Indian Constitution envisioned a democratic framework that not only guaranteed fundamental rights but also sought to address centuries of social inequality and systemic oppression particularly against marginalized communities such as Dalits. His democratic agenda was grounded in principles of social justice equality liberty fraternity and empowerment of the underprivileged aiming to reconcile the coexistence of legal equality with substantive social inclusion. This research paper critically reviews Ambedkar’s vision tracing its theoretical foundations socio-political context and practical implications for contemporary India. The study examines how his concepts of democracy extend beyond mere electoral mechanisms to encompass participatory governance affirmative action representation and structural reforms in education labor and caste-based disparities. By synthesizing historical writings speeches legislative interventions and scholarly interpretations this paper evaluates the effectiveness of Ambedkar’s democratic framework in achieving the intended social transformation. Furthermore the research explores challenges in implementing Ambedkar’s ideals in modern India considering institutional limitations socio-cultural resistance political appropriation and policy gaps. The study ultimately provides insights into the ongoing relevance of Ambedkar’s democratic agenda in contemporary debates on social equity governance and inclusive development.
