A Critical Review of Dr. B.R. Ambedkars Democratic Agenda in India
Author(s): Deepak ThapliyalAbstract
Social justice equality and the emancipation of oppressed groups were central to Dr. B.R. Ambedkars goals for the democratic transformation of India. In his view social and economic justice were fundamental to democracy not just political representation. Democracies according to Ambedkar need strong legal protections for the disenfranchised and basic rights for all citizens. An inclusive society free from caste-based prejudice in which every person may realise his or her full potential was central to his vision. This summary summarises Ambedkars democratic principles focussing on his conviction that fundamental changes are necessary to establish a fair and equal society.
