Author(s): Dr. Parikshit GautamAbstract
This research aims to analyse the efficacy problems and influence of Assams Public Distribution System (PDS) on the states socio-economic fabric by exploring it via a socioeconomic lens. The northeastern Indian state of Assam has its own set of social and economic problems such as a large ethnic minority population restricted land access and high poverty rates. Combining quantitative data analysis of PDS success indicators with qualitative insights from stakeholder interviews—which include beneficiaries local authorities and policy experts—this article utilises a mixed-methods approach. The results show that the PDS isnt doing a good job of addressing food insecurity and socioeconomic inequalities because of factors including corruption insufficient coverage and inefficient distribution. The report also emphasizes how community involvement and local government influenced the PDS results. Increasing openness making better use of technology and encouraging more community involvement are the main points of the planned system improvements. This study adds to our knowledge of the PDSs function in the socioeconomic setting of Assam and provides practical recommendations for enhancing food security and social and economic well-being via policy change.
