Abstract
This research investigates the economic and social circumstances of the Banaras weavers a historic society renowned for their production of the distinctive Banarasi silk sarees. The study investigates the difficulties encountered by these craftsmen including the consequences of modernisation competition from mechanised textiles and the evolving dynamics of international marketplaces. The research utilises both qualitative interviews and quantitative data analysis to uncover a decrease in the conventional weaving sector resulting in economic difficulties and social consequences for the community of weavers. The challenges faced by the weavers have been intensified by factors such as declining demand insufficient financial backing and exploitation by intermediaries. Consequently many weavers have been compelled to either give up their craft or relocate in search of more favourable prospects. The report also emphasises the communitys resilience and continuous efforts to safeguard its cultural legacy. Suggestions are provided for policy interventions and sustainable practices that might rejuvenate the weaving business and enhance the socio-economic circumstances of the Banaras weavers.
