AN ANALYSIS OF THE MODERN SIGNIFICANCE OF SARDAR PATEL’S POLITICAL ECONOMIC THOUGHTS

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel widely regarded as the “Iron Man of India” not only played a pivotal role in consolidating the Indian Union but also contributed significantly to the shaping of India’s political economy. Post-2021 scholarship revisits Patel’s writings speeches and policy decisions to analyze the contemporary relevance of his economic and political philosophy. This study investigates the ideological underpinnings strategic reasoning and practical applications of Patel’s economic thoughts situating them within both the historical context of post-independence India and the ongoing discourse on governance development and fiscal management. By examining archival records parliamentary debates policy documents and contemporary analyses the research explores the principles guiding Patel’s approach to economic planning federal fiscal relations and administrative integration of princely states. Additionally the study evaluates how Patel’s thoughts can inform modern policy-making particularly in areas such as decentralization cooperative governance fiscal prudence and industrial regulation. Post-2021 studies highlight Patel’s pragmatic approach to balancing political imperatives with economic strategies his emphasis on national integration as a precondition for economic stability and his advocacy for ethical governance. The paper concludes that Patel’s political-economic philosophy grounded in historical consciousness strategic foresight and moral responsibility continues to offer insights for contemporary governance and development initiatives in India.
