An Analysis of Violence Against Women in the Context of Honour from a Legal Perspective

This study analyses the legal aspects of violence against women carried out in the name of honour investigating how these actions are addressed within various legal systems worldwide. This work explores the socio-cultural factors that contribute to honor-based violence emphasising the connection between gender culture and legal systems. The paper examines several international and national legal approaches to honor-based violence including criminalisation protection measures and judicial perspectives. The article aims to uncover deficiencies in legal protection and enforcement by conducting a comparative analysis. It advocates for a stronger and more gender-sensitive strategy to addressing this kind of abuse. The study highlights the need of restructuring legal systems to undermine the fundamental patriarchal norms that rationalise honor-based violence. It emphasises the necessity of international collaboration and uniform legal benchmarks to adequately safeguard womens rights.
