Caste Social Mobility and Higher Education Opportunities in India
Author(s): Mohit SharmaAbstract
Caste has historically structured social economic and educational opportunities in India. Despite constitutional guarantees of equality and affirmative action policies caste continues to shape patterns of access to higher education and social mobility. For marginalized communities such as Scheduled Castes (SCs) Scheduled Tribes (STs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) higher education has served as a critical pathway for upward mobility but structural inequalities and social discrimination remain persistent barriers.
