CHANGES IN RELATIONSHIPS IN TRADITIONAL INDIAN SOCIETY

Abstract
Traditional Indian society has historically been defined by intricate social familial and community relationships guided by customs rituals and deeply rooted cultural norms. Relationships in this context were structured around extended family systems caste hierarchies joint households arranged marriages and community interdependence. However with rapid modernization urbanization globalization and exposure to new cultural paradigms these relationships have undergone significant transformations in terms of structure dynamics and interpersonal expectations. The present study seeks to explore these changes in depth analyzing how modernization has influenced familial bonds marital relationships intergenerational communication and social cohesion. Using qualitative and quantitative research methods the paper examines shifts in kinship patterns the rise of nuclear families the evolution of gender roles and the effects of technology and mobility on social connections. By studying both historical and contemporary perspectives this research illuminates the transition from traditional collectivist models to more individualistic orientations highlighting the implications for social stability mental health and cultural continuity. This work aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of evolving interpersonal and societal relationships in the Indian context contributing to sociological knowledge and policy considerations.
