Author(s): Aakash KumarAbstract
Indian democracy often hailed as the largest in the world has stood as a vibrant testament to constitutional governance electoral legitimacy and institutional continuity for over seven decades. Anchored in the ideals of liberty equality justice and fraternity the democratic framework of India was carefully crafted through the Constitution which came into effect in 1950. However as democracy evolves with time so do the challenges that confront it. In the twenty-first century India is grappling with a series of complex overlapping and deeply entrenched challenges that test the strength and resilience of its democratic institutions. This paper seeks to explore these challenges through an institutional lens evaluating how the legislature executive judiciary and other key democratic structures are both the arenas of democratic struggle and the instruments through which democracy is maintained or weakened.
