Cultural Nationalism and Youth Political Awareness in Contemporary India

Abstract
The idea of cultural nationalism has emerged as one of the most influential forces shaping political discourse and youth consciousness in contemporary India. In recent decades rapid globalization technological expansion social media communication and changing political narratives have significantly transformed the relationship between culture and politics. Indian youth constituting a major demographic section of the country have increasingly become active participants in discussions related to identity nationalism tradition religion language and heritage. Cultural nationalism which emphasizes shared cultural values historical memories civilizational pride and collective identity has played a major role in influencing political awareness among young citizens. This research paper examines the growing connection between cultural nationalism and political consciousness among Indian youth in the modern era. The study explores how educational institutions digital media platforms political campaigns cultural symbols and historical narratives contribute to shaping youth opinions and participation in democratic processes. It further investigates the role of social media in spreading nationalist sentiments and political ideologies among students and young voters. The paper also analyzes the positive and negative dimensions of cultural nationalism including national integration civic participation identity formation ideological polarization and debates surrounding secularism and diversity. Through a qualitative and analytical approach the study highlights the evolving political attitudes of young Indians and their engagement with contemporary national issues. The research ultimately argues that cultural nationalism has become an important factor in defining modern youth political awareness and democratic participation in India.
