This paper examines the rise of cybersecurity awareness and the concept of digital citizenship in Indian society from 2018 to 2025. As India transitions into one of the world’s largest digital economies the increasing penetration of smartphones internet connectivity and digital governance has reshaped the way citizens engage with information services and one another. However this transformation has also brought risks of cybercrime identity theft misinformation and data breaches necessitating a culture of responsible digital behavior. The paper explores how awareness initiatives government policies educational programs and civil society campaigns have contributed to promoting cybersecurity and digital citizenship. It also examines challenges such as low digital literacy uneven access and cultural barriers that hinder safe digital practices. The analysis argues that while India has made substantial progress in building awareness and legal frameworks achieving responsible digital citizenship requires sustained efforts in education inclusivity and collaboration between state industry and citizens.
