Disability Rights and Social Inclusion in Indian Society

Abstract
In India the discourse on disability rights has gradually evolved from a framework of charity and welfare to one rooted in dignity equality and human rights. However despite legislative reforms and constitutional guarantees persons with disabilities continue to face significant challenges in realizing full social inclusion. This research paper critically examines the status of disability rights and the extent of social inclusion in contemporary Indian society. It discusses the evolution of the legal and policy framework socio-cultural barriers institutional limitations and the role of civil society. Drawing upon empirical studies and constitutional principles the paper argues that true inclusion requires not only policy implementation but also a deep transformation in societal attitudes physical infrastructure and participatory governance. The future of disability rights lies in integrating accessibility autonomy and intersectionality into all spheres of public life.
