Author(s): Vijendra Singh

Abstract
This study investigates the progression of shelter from ancient literature to present-day urban housing analysing how historical works mirror the early human necessities and principles about housing and contrasting them with current methods. Ancient literature including texts from Mesopotamian Egyptian Greek and Roman origins offers valuable perspectives on the social cultural and environmental factors that influenced the early development and use of shelters. These writings demonstrate the importance of shelter in social stratification communal organisation and everyday existence. The study examines the contrast between historical ideas and current urban housing practices emphasising changes in architectural and social paradigms. The evolution of urban housing propelled by technical progress and shifting socio-economic dynamics brings up fresh obstacles and possibilities in meeting the demands for human shelter. This comparative research highlights the ongoing and diverging ideas about shelter throughout history providing a more profound comprehension of how past viewpoints influence present and future housing options.
