Feminisms views on the executive branch
Author(s): Dr. Mrinal SarkarAbstract
Feminism has a long history of critical analysis of the executive branch with an emphasis on representation power relations and the effects of policies. This viewpoint looks at the ways in which gender inequality is maintained by the executive branch which has historically been led by men. Feminist analyses often point out the structural obstacles that prevent women from rising through the ranks and the under-representation of women in executive positions. Feminist research also delves into the ways in which actions and policies made by executives impact gender equality looking at topics like reproductive rights discrimination in the workplace and violence against women. Feminists want to promote a more egalitarian society by urging the executive branch to be more diverse and inclusive in order to better represent and meet the interests of all genders. If we want to see true gender parity in executive governance this view says we need to make certain structural adjustments and modify some cultural attitudes.
