Fingerprints Recognition Using Principal Component Analysis and Various Distance Measures

This work presents a novel method for fingerprint recognition that utilises principal component analysis (PCA). This document is a detailed explanation of the procedure for obtaining distinctive characteristics from a fingerprint image using optimised principal component analysis. The proposed approach consists of four main components: fingerprint enhancement feature extraction eigenfinger computation using principal component analysis and the use of eigenfingers for fingerprint image classification. Finally we assess the accuracy of the fingerprint recognition system that is based on principle component analysis (PCA) by comparing eight distinct distance measures applied to feature vectors.
