Gandhi and Ambedkar had contrasting approaches in their unified fight against caste and inequality Neel

Abstract
The fight against caste-based discrimination and social inequality in India during the late colonial period witnessed two of the most prominent leaders of modern Indian history: Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Despite sharing a unified goal of social reform and upliftment of marginalized communities their philosophical approaches strategic methods and ideological frameworks differed significantly. Gandhi emphasized moral and spiritual transformation advocating for caste reform through nonviolent persuasion ethical awakening and integration within traditional Hindu social structures. In contrast Ambedkar championed constitutional legislative and social interventions to dismantle systemic oppression promoting legal safeguards education and political representation for Dalits and other marginalized groups.
