Gig Economy and Social Security of Informal Workers

Abstract
The rapid expansion of the gig economy has redefined the nature of work globally offering flexibility autonomy and new income opportunities while simultaneously raising concerns about precarity and insecurity. In India where over 80 percent of the workforce is employed in the informal sector the rise of gig platforms such as Ola Uber Zomato Swiggy and Urban Company has brought new challenges and possibilities. Gig workers though contributing significantly to the economy often remain excluded from traditional forms of social protection such as health insurance pensions and job security
