Global Perception of Muslim Identity

Abstract
The global perception of Muslim identity has evolved significantly across different stages of history shaped by religion culture geopolitics migration colonial legacies media narratives and global conflicts. While Islam represents a diverse civilisation with rich philosophical scientific cultural and ethical contributions its global representation is often influenced by political events and selective portrayals in global media. In recent decades particularly after events such as the September 11 attacks the War on Terror rising nationalism in Western societies and increased migration Muslim identity has frequently been framed through stereotypes suspicion and cultural misunderstandings. This has resulted in Islamophobia discrimination and misconceptions globally. At the same time a counter-narrative has emerged through scholarship intercultural dialogue digital platforms and activism that aims to portray Islam more accurately and highlight the diversity values and contributions of Muslim communities worldwide.
