Abstract
Migration has been one of the most significant socio-economic phenomena shaping rural households in India and globally. Rural–urban and international migration provide new livelihood opportunities while simultaneously restructuring household economies gender roles and community relations. For millions of rural families remittances from migrant members constitute a critical source of income financing consumption education healthcare and investments. At the same time migration alters traditional gender dynamics as women often assume new responsibilities in the absence of male household heads. Over time migration triggers broader processes of social change influencing aspirations lifestyles and community structures.
