Integration of Indian Knowledge Systems with Modern Education

Abstract
The Indian Knowledge System (IKS) is a repository of intellectual traditions philosophical insights and scientific advancements that have evolved over millennia. With the advent of modern education there has been an increasing need to integrate these traditional wisdoms into contemporary academic frameworks to create a more holistic learning environment. This paper explores the significance of IKS in modern education by examining its contributions to various disciplines such as mathematics medicine linguistics and environmental science. It evaluates how ancient pedagogical methods including the Gurukul system can complement contemporary learning strategies. The study also investigates policy initiatives such as the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 which emphasizes the incorporation of Indian knowledge traditions into curricula. Furthermore the paper discusses the challenges in integrating IKS such as linguistic barriers the Eurocentric orientation of education and the lack of structured methodologies. Through an interdisciplinary approach this research underscores the relevance of IKS in fostering critical thinking ethical reasoning and cultural consciousness among students. The paper concludes with recommendations on curriculum development teacher training and institutional frameworks necessary for a seamless integration of IKS with modern education.
