Muslim Women’s Education: Barriers Traditions and Transformations
Author(s): Vikas SharmaAbstract
Education is widely recognized as a fundamental human right and a powerful tool for socio-economic transformation. However for Muslim women in India and several other parts of the world access to education has historically been hindered by a combination of cultural socio-economic political and institutional barriers. While recent decades have witnessed some progress in the educational participation of Muslim women the pace and scope of this transformation remain uneven. This research paper examines the historical traditions that have shaped Muslim women’s educational experiences the barriers that persist in contemporary contexts and the ongoing transformations that are reshaping the educational landscape for Muslim women today.
