Parenting Styles and Adolescent Behaviour in Indian Families
Author(s): Mahender Singh

Abstract
Parenting plays a pivotal role in shaping the psychological emotional and social development of adolescents. In India where family structures and cultural norms strongly influence childrearing parenting styles significantly affect adolescent behaviour identity formation and interpersonal relationships. Drawing on Baumrind’s typology of parenting—authoritative authoritarian permissive and neglectful—this paper analyzes how Indian parents adapt these styles within cultural contexts and how adolescents respond to them.
