The rise of smart technologies has redefined modern life offering unparalleled convenience efficiency and interconnectivity. However these innovations come at the cost of increasing surveillance raising concerns about privacy and social trust. This research examines the dual impact of smart technologies on civil liberties analyzing how governments corporations and individuals navigate the tension between security and personal freedom. Utilizing a multidisciplinary approach this study explores how mass data collection facial recognition systems AI-driven monitoring and Internet of Things (IoT) devices influence public trust and personal autonomy. The findings reveal that while smart technologies enhance security and streamline daily activities they also introduce significant risks including data misuse mass surveillance and the erosion of anonymity. The study further investigates the role of regulatory policies ethical AI frameworks and public awareness in safeguarding privacy without hindering technological progress. Ultimately this paper argues that a balance must be struck between leveraging technology for societal benefits and ensuring civil liberties remain protected. As smart technologies continue to evolve a collaborative approach involving policymakers technologists and civil society is necessary to maintain transparency accountability and trust in an increasingly digital world.
