Author(s): JayhindAbstract
The privatization of education in India has emerged as one of the most significant transformations in the post-liberalization era bringing with it both promises and paradoxes. On one hand it has expanded educational opportunities especially in urban and semi-urban areas catering to growing demands for quality and skill-based learning. On the other it has raised serious concerns regarding equity social justice and the commodification of a public good. This paper critically explores the evolution dimensions and implications of educational privatization in India contrasting its impact on access affordability quality and equity. By examining the role of private schools higher education institutions and the mushrooming of coaching centers and ed-tech platforms the paper argues that while privatization may enhance individual opportunity for some it reinforces structural inequalities for the majority. A nuanced and balanced regulatory framework is essential to reconcile the goals of quality education with social inclusion and constitutional commitments to universal education.
