Public Policy and Governance Reforms in the Post- Liberalization Era

The economic liberalization of 1991 marked a watershed in India’s development trajectory altering the relationship between the state market and society. This shift not only redefined India’s economic policies but also brought substantial changes to governance structures institutional frameworks and public policy priorities. The post-liberalization era witnessed a transition from state-led development to market-oriented reforms accompanied by an increased emphasis on good governance efficiency transparency and accountability. This paper critically examines the evolution of public policy and governance reforms in India since 1991. It explores changes in policy formulation and implementation institutional innovations decentralization regulatory mechanisms public service delivery and participatory governance. Through a detailed analysis the study reflects on the achievements challenges and ongoing tensions in aligning governance reforms with the imperatives of equity sustainability and democratic accountability in a complex and diverse society.
