Indian cinema has played a crucial role in shaping and reflecting nationalist sentiment throughout the country’s history. From the era of independence to the present day the portrayal of nationalism in Indian films has evolved significantly influenced by political changes social movements and global cinematic trends. While early post-independence films focused on unity sacrifice and patriotic fervor modern representations of nationalism often intersect with themes of identity globalization and political ideology. This paper examines how nationalism has been portrayed in Indian cinema across different time periods exploring the shifts in narrative character representation and ideological messaging. By analyzing landmark films and their sociopolitical contexts this research aims to understand the evolving nature of nationalism as depicted in Indian cinema.
