Author(s): Dr. Bhawana SharmaAbstract
Christianity has had far-reaching effects on the social economic and cultural dynamics of Indias Dalit people. Dalits who have long been oppressed by the Hindu caste system are the focus of this historical investigation of the impact of Christianity on India. Based on the findings Dalits who converted to Christianity not only gained a spiritual and communal identity apart from the caste system but also had new doors opened to them in terms of social mobility education and economic success. The research explores the societal changes that occurred as a result of Christianity such as the emancipation of Dalits from old traditions and the creation of health and education facilities. It also looks at the social and cultural tensions that Dalits are still dealing with as well as the difficulties they are having adjusting to their new religious identity. The study also takes into account the impact that Christian groups and missionaries had on the larger discussion of social justice in India particularly as it pertained to the rights of the Dalits. This research seeks to give a thorough knowledge of the distinctive effect of Christianity on the Dalit community by comparing it with other social and religious movements. By doing so it hopes to shed light on the advantages and complications of this religious influence.
