Social justice has remained a pivotal concern in India’s socio-political discourse shaping policies legal frameworks and educational initiatives to ensure equitable access to rights resources and opportunities. The intellectual and activist contributions of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule (1827–1890) occupy a foundational place in the evolution of social justice in India particularly in the areas of caste equity women’s education and the upliftment of marginalized communities. Phule’s pioneering efforts in promoting education for lower-caste and female populations alongside his critique of entrenched social hierarchies have left a lasting impact on India’s social reform movements and contemporary approaches to equity and justice.
