Abstract
The gig economy has emerged as a transformative force in the global labor market significantly altering traditional employment structures. In India the gig economy is thriving due to rapid digitization a growing startup ecosystem and an expanding pool of skilled and semi-skilled labor. While it offers flexibility and employment opportunities to millions it also raises critical concerns about worker exploitation job security and social protection. This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the gig economy in India examining its growth opportunities and challenges. By exploring case studies legal frameworks and the socio-economic impact the study highlights the dual nature of the gig economy as both an enabler and a challenge for workers in India.
