The Ideological Legacies of Syama Prasad Mookerjee: A Critical Review

Syama Prasad Mookerjee (1901–1953) occupies a complex and often contested position in modern Indian political and intellectual history. Known as the founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh Mookerjee’s ideological contributions encompass nationalism political thought educational reform and the articulation of cultural and religious identity in post-colonial India. This study critically examines his intellectual and political legacies situating them within the broader historical context of colonial India the struggle for independence and the early years of the Indian Republic. By analyzing Mookerjee’s writings speeches political manifestos and scholarly commentaries the research investigates the foundational principles philosophical underpinnings and sociopolitical implications of his thought.
