THE IMPACT OF BOTSWANA’S DROUGHT ON SOCIETY AND THE ECONOMY

Abstract
Botswana located in Southern Africa is characterized by a semi-arid climate and is highly susceptible to recurrent droughts which pose significant challenges to both social structures and economic stability. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the impact of droughts on Botswana’s society and economy drawing on empirical evidence government reports and scholarly literature published prior to 2021. The research emphasizes the multi-dimensional consequences of drought encompassing agricultural productivity water resource management public health income generation employment and socio-economic inequalities. By examining historical and contemporary data the study identifies key factors that exacerbate vulnerability including reliance on rain-fed agriculture limited irrigation infrastructure and socio-economic disparities.
