Urbanisation has emerged as one of the most powerful socio-economic forces shaping contemporary India. Rapid migration to cities the growth of metropolitan cultures and the transformation of work and lifestyle patterns have altered not only economic structures but also the cultural fabric of families. Traditionally Indian family life was defined by joint households intergenerational bonds and community-based values. Urbanisation has reconfigured these relationships by fostering nuclear households individualistic aspirations and new gender dynamics. While cities provide opportunities for education employment and social mobility they also create challenges in sustaining familial cohesion cultural traditions and moral values.
