The Role of Moral Education in the Indian Education System

Moral education has been a fundamental component of traditional Indian learning deeply rooted in philosophical religious and ethical traditions. However with the increasing emphasis on technical and professional education moral values have taken a backseat in contemporary schooling. The declining emphasis on ethics integrity and social responsibility has led to concerns about rising societal issues such as corruption intolerance and the erosion of ethical standards among students. This paper examines the role of moral education in the Indian education system analyzing its historical significance current implementation challenges and potential solutions. It also explores the impact of moral education on character development civic responsibility and national progress arguing for a balanced approach that integrates ethical learning with modern educational demands.
