The Sociology of Online Learning Fatigue: Post-Pandemic Educational Experiences in India

The rapid expansion of online education during and after the COVID-19 pandemic transformed the educational landscape of India. While digital learning ensured academic continuity during periods of lockdown and social distancing it also generated new social and psychological challenges among students and educators. One of the most significant outcomes of this transformation has been online learning fatigue a condition characterized by mental exhaustion reduced motivation emotional stress and decreased academic engagement resulting from prolonged exposure to virtual learning environments. This study explores the sociology of online learning fatigue in post-pandemic India by examining the social economic technological and cultural factors that contribute to students’ experiences of exhaustion and disengagement. The research highlights how unequal access to digital resources family environments screen dependency social isolation and changing educational expectations have shaped learning experiences across diverse social groups. The study seeks to understand online learning fatigue not merely as an individual psychological issue but as a broader social phenomenon influenced by structural inequalities and changing educational practices in contemporary India.
