Urbanization and Social Exclusion: A Study of Slum Dwellers in Mega Cities
Author(s): Geeta Rani

Abstract
Accelerated urbanization in megacities has resulted in considerable social exclusion especially among slum inhabitants who experience systematic marginalization. This research analyses the socio-economic circumstances of slum populations in prominent metropolitan centres emphasizing the difficulties related to housing access to essential services and social mobility. This study examines data from many megacities to elucidate how urban design economic disparity and informal labor markets perpetuate the marginalization of slum inhabitants from conventional urban existence. The results indicate that slum inhabitants have restricted access to vital resources like clean water sanitation healthcare and education hence exacerbating their vulnerability. The research examines the social stigmatization and legal precarity experienced by slum populations which obstruct their participation in the economic and social domains of the city. The study promotes the implementation of more inclusive urban policies that cater to the needs of marginalized urban communities and foster fair development.
