Women in Leadership: Progress and Barriers in Indian Politics

Abstract
Womens representation in leadership positions particularly in politics is a critical indicator of societal progress. In India the inclusion of women in political leadership has evolved significantly over the decades influenced by constitutional provisions policy interventions and social movements. Despite these advancements women continue to face systemic barriers including patriarchal norms socio-economic challenges and institutional hurdles. This paper explores the progress of women in Indian political leadership identifies the barriers they face and offers recommendations to enhance gender equity in politics. By examining historical trends key case studies and legislative measures this paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the challenges and opportunities for women in Indian politics.
