Women in Politics: Representation in India vs Global Trends

Abstract
Women’s political representation remains a critical measure of democratic inclusion and gender equality. Despite international conventions constitutional guarantees and various policy reforms women across the globe remain underrepresented in legislative bodies political leadership and executive decision-making. This research paper explores the status of women in politics in India and compares it with global trends. Through a comparative lens it examines structural barriers institutional mechanisms socio-cultural challenges and policy interventions that shape the level of political participation among women. The paper emphasizes that while some countries have made considerable strides through quotas and gender-sensitive electoral reforms India continues to lag in terms of national-level representation despite notable female political figures. By analyzing both successes and setbacks the study advocates for deeper institutional reforms gender-sensitive political training and a transformative vision of democracy that fully includes women as equal political actors.
